Gilles grew up in Paris and studied art and roof carpentry. He traveled in Africa and lived in the Sahara with a family of nomads. This experience was pivotal in his life. Back in France, Combet pursued a career as a professional dancer. Dance brought him to the US. Following a series of injuries, Combet returned to fine art. He also took a degree in multimedia and web design and worked as a graphic designer. Combet currently teaches at Creativity Explored and has his own professional art practice.

What one can learn from the work of artists with no formal training. Finding your own very special way to draw a cat. Finding the time and the place that will allow that to happen. It can be a private space or a shared studio or working with a teacher. Everyone has a different way to draw a cat; it is important to find your own way. Practicing raw creativity gives you strength. It is also a place of calm and renewal.
