“One Tool, Infinite Results” Salon at Mullowney Printing

Attendees at our recent Salon were treated to an exceptional panel discussion on design and printmaking. Co-hosted by stARTup Art Fair and Mullowney Printing in San Francisco’s Mission district, the talk featured In/Visible Project Co-Founder Arianna Orland moderating for Artists Carrie Ann Plank and Eric Rewitzer and Master Printer Paul Mullowney. A letterpress workshop followed.
The theme of “One Tool, Infinite Results” referred to the awareness that even using the same tools—paint brushes, ink, paint, paper—artists create vastly different works that reflect their influences, upbringings, visions, skills, and techniques. With some of their artwork on the wall behind them, the panelists answered questions from Arianna and audience members, including What drew you to the practice of printmaking? Do you consider yourself an artist, printer, designer, or none of the above? And How do you set yourself apart as an artist?
Their responses and subsequent discussions touched upon appreciating the beauty of imperfection, experimenting and trusting the creative process, engaging with the community, and finding a balance between professional work and personal studio work.
A video of the “One Tool, Infinite Results” panel discussion is now available online here. Tune in and join members of the San Francisco Bay Area art community for inspiration and motivation to step up your own creative endeavors.
