January 2019 Design & Art Event Hotlist

Happy (almost) New Year!

If one of your new year’s resolutions is to get out more and take advantage of all the inspiring design and art events offered in the Bay Area, we’ve got some hot picks for you to consider. Once again, In/Visible Talks’ co-founders and long-time practicing designers Arianna Orland and Dava Guthmiller have combed through all their invitations and curated a list of experiences they feel are “Must-Dos”.

Explore opportunities at North America’s top art schools, check out local art fairs, and, of course, come join us for the In/Visible Talks conference and workshops.

Break out your new 2019 calendar and make your plans today.

National Portfolio Day at SFAI.

Held yearly, National Portfolio Day (NPD) events offer students the opportunity to connect exclusively with admissions representatives from the most prestigious art schools—representing the highest standards of visual arts education available in the U.S. and Canada. High school students, parents, teachers, and college transfer students are encouraged to attend. Bring your portfolio and questions. Free and open to all. January 12. San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI)—Fort Mason Campus, Pier 2, 2 Marina Blvd., San Francisco.

In/Visible Talks.

Well, of course we think this is the absolute best way to kick off your creativity for 2019. Come for insightful conversations about design and art, new ideas, and creative community. Last year’s event sold out, so register now. January 17. The Pearl, 601 19th Street, San Francisco.

FOG Design + Art Fair.

We love a good art event, and FOG is one of our favorites. Celebrating today’s creatives and leading contributors to the worlds of design and visual arts, the fair assembles 53 leading international galleries and contemporary design dealers. It’s also a fundraiser for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). General admission is $25. January 17–20. Fort Mason Festival Pavilion, 2 Marina Blvd., San Francisco.

In/Visible Talks Workshops.

Because one day of In/Visible is not enough, Josh Silverman will be hosting a morning workshop on “Feedback: The Gift You Keep on Receiving (and Giving)” and Laurie Rosenwald will take over the afternoon to show us “How to Make Mistakes on Purpose”. $150 per workshop or $280 for the Workshop Package. January 18 from 9 am–12 pm and 1:30–4:30 pm. In/Visible Talks HQ, 1616 16th Street #360, San Francisco.

Untitled Art Fair.

Untitled Art Fair and FOG Design + Art Fair are the reasons In/Visible talks is held in January. We love these two events, and we wanted a weekend of art and design to kick off the year and keep us excited about our craft. Untitled Art is an international, curated art fair that focuses on curatorial balance and integrity across all disciplines of contemporary art. As an attendee of In/Visible, you receive a pass to this amazing show, but its best with a friend or two. Visit their website for information about events, special projects, performances, and more. January 18–20. Pier 35, 1454 Embarcadero Street, San Francisco.
