Five Questions with Samantha Warren: Experience Design Manager at Adobe Stock and Typekit
Samantha Warren’s first job was collating prints in her dad’s print shop. She carved out her own successful creative career with stints as Design Director for agencies on the East Coast, Product Design Consultant for startups in Silicon Valley, and Designer at Twitter. Today she leads her design team in a “delicate balance of iteration and forward-thinking innovation” for Adobe’s creative marketplace.
As part of our 2018 speaker lineup, Samantha will be sharing with us the story of how her product design team took a daring “design stretch” to develop a long-term vision for their product while continuing to keep the product moving forward. No small feat!
What is your relationship to the creative process?
“As an Experience Design Manager, I participate, facilitate, and design digital products that help inspire the creative process. It’s pretty meta, actually: I design the conditions for designers to create the products that help creatives be inspired and make design.”
How or where to you find inspiration?
“From people and the stories they tell. Nothing ignites a spark for me more than hearing a story about how someone approached a problem in a new and interesting way. Finding these stories in unexpected places inspires me even more.”
What was one of your biggest creative challenges?
“Making creativity a habit.”
When did you first realize you needed to be in a creative field?
“My parents are both creative, and it’s always been a big part of my life. I don’t think it was ever a realization, it was always just inevitable.”
Who is one of your heroes and why?
“Terry Gross of NPR’s Fresh Air. Her craft is helping people tell stories, and she takes a lot of pride in being impeccable at that craft. I can listen to her interview anyone.”
