Community Spotlight: 6 Questions with Brand Strategist Remi Dixon

Brand Strategist Remi Dixon attends many design and art events in the Bay Area, and he especially loves going to open studios. He first heard about In/Visible Talks when doing research on Noise 13, the branding and design agency where he worked for over a year (and one of the parent companies of In/Visible Talks). “I absolutely loved the concept,” he says, “and when I was given the opportunity to go, I was overjoyed. The conference did not disappoint.”
Remi describes himself a “lover of good design” and an “aspiring polymath”. We had to look that last one up and learned from Merriam-Webster it’s “a person of encyclopedic learning”. We’re looking forward to feeding both parts of him at January’s conference. Till then, he’s working on a “giant strategy project, uncovering insights that will enable a foundation to do great work.”
Here are some more insights into Remi’s creative life.
What is your relationship to the creative process?
“We have a pretty good one. We both give equally and get equally.”
How or where do you find inspiration?
“Everywhere really, mostly the world around me: news, history, ideas. People are a wealth of inspiration.”
How was In/Visible Talks meaningful or impactful for you?
“The speakers are everything. You all have done such a great job of finding speakers with messages that truly resonate, and the presentation is typically spot-on.”
Who was your favorite In/Visible Talks speaker?
“I loved Laurie Rosenwald. There were a lot of great speakers, but something about her style was refreshing and really on point with her talk.” (Watch the video of Laurie’s 2019 talk here.)
What is something you learned in the last year that you wish you knew when you started your career?
“That perfection isn’t everything. This isn’t really new, but you need to be reminded every so often.”
What other kinds of programming would you like to see from In/Visible Talks?
“More salons.”
